About the factory
The Lancang Ancient Tea is a Pu’er tea brand with a long history, originating from Lancang County, Pu’er City, Yunnan Province. It can be traced back to 1966, and its predecessor was Lancang County Ancient Tea Mountain Jingmai Tea Factory, which was restructured into Lancang County Ancient Tea Co., Ltd. in 1998.
In 1998, brand founder Du Chunyi led 82 employees in acquiring the assets of a bankrupt state-owned tea factory and reorganised it into Lancang County Ancient Tea Co., Ltd.
Wang Juan (current group president) joined the company as general manager of the marketing centre in 2007.
The core advantage of Lancang Ancient Tea is its reliance on ancient tea garden resources in Lancang County, Yunnan, and adherence to a development concept based on ancient tree tea.
Some of the classic productions are the 007, 001, 0081, 0085 and the Wujin series.
Currently, some of their products are made with gushu tea material.
About the tea
This tea cake uses early spring tea material. Made from the finest Bangwai mountain tea produced by the Lancang Tea Factory in 2005! The material is evenly distributed throughout the cake, including the front, back, and inside layers. Unlike many tea cakes that feature high-grade leaves only on the surface for visual appeal, this tea maintains consistent quality throughout the tea cake.
The tea material consists of some buds and other small-grade tea leaves, together with medium-sized tea leaves in a lower proportion. Aged for 6 years in Kunming and then in Guangdong, resulting in excellent storage results.
Tasting notes
This tea has mild woody notes with a concentrated honey flavour and aroma that is much more pronounced than our 7671. The Zouji tea has more honey aroma than taste and less rich than this one, and also (the zouji one) has a darker tea notes flavour profile.
This tea has the characteristics of some wild teas. The taste is not overly strong; it has an orchid aroma and is very sweet.
This tea can withstand shorter or longer steeps. If you push it, the astringency is higher, but the bitterness is moderate, not unbearable.
It also features a thick, sweet, honey-like, mouthwatering tea soup and a long aftertaste that lingers in the mouth and throat, accompanied by a cooling sensation.
About old teas: The wrappers often have holes from insect bites, and you may also notice tea oil stains.
Commonly, the paper disintegrates over time. And dust appears between the cake and the wrapper. The dust could also be from the bamboo wrapper. You can remove this dust by blowing it out. The easiest way is to brush it off.
Also, note that there might be hair, tea pods and tiny stones/rocks.
Please consider this before purchasing old compressed Pu’er teas!
