The producer

The factory that produces this tea is a local Yunnan boutique brand.

The founder, Mr Zhang Guangyi, has been in the Puer tea industry for 20 years. He has continuously refined the quality of his teas during this time. And his efforts pay off because the result is top-quality tea.

 

About Mangang tea

There is a secret realm hidden in the mountains of Lincang, which is called Mangang. In Dai language called 石头上的寨子 (Lit. the village on the stone), is located in Bangdong Township, Linxiang District, Lincang prefecture-level city. Here there are many primitive forests, and there is a considerable amount of ancient tea trees. Mangang Tea Area locates at an altitude of 1.400 to 1.900 meters. 

Mangang is situated deep in the mountains. Many tea trees in Mangang grow in crevices of stones. 

    

The Tea

The picked tea leaves consist of one bud, two and three leaves. 

 The tea material comes from wild ancient tea trees about 300-500 years old, according to the producer that is. There is a tendency in the tea industry to add years to the age of tea trees for marketing purposes. So in some cases, it is hard to verify such claims. That said, this tea has Gushu material for sure, and you will feel it while drinking it. 

The tea was sun-dried and stone-pressed using traditional methods. 

My brewing Parameters at the time of writing: 7g in a 100 ml Gaiwan. I brewed this one 14 times.

The tea doesn’t have bitterness or astringency. On the contrary, the mouthfeel and feeling in the throat are the opposite of astringent. In Chinese is called Huadu (slippery) and Runhua (lit. oily, smooth). A feeling that only good Shupu has.

 As with any high-quality Gushu, it gets sweeter after each infusion (after the 4th or 5th infusion up to the end). In addition, the huigan and mouthfeel are outstanding. Very sweet with plenty of shengjin, it also has a thick and creamy tea soup with a cooling feeling in the mouth and throat.  

When it comes to the energy of the tea, it is powerful for a Shupu, showing the quality of the tea leaves. Close to the feeling of a good Raw Puer but less stimulating.

I started feeling it around the 5th infusion onwards. It gives a warm, relaxing, focused and at the same time a little stimulating body feeling. The cooling mouthfeel also gets stronger as the tea session goes by.

To sum up, this tea preserves much of its original high-quality traits thanks to two things. The fact that it underwent a light post-fermentation and the quality of the raw tea material.

You can drink this tea now. But I think it is worth the wait and let it rest for some time. It will be a superb tea to drink once the wet pile taste it’s completely gone. 

Note: it still has some wodui taste but not as strong as many big factory Shupu teas.  

While not an inexpensive tea, I am offering it nearly at the same price sold here in Kunming. My goal is to provide a top-quality tea with a good body feeling. 

This tea, along with the others from this factory, Wo Long and Gong Pin. Will please new tea drinkers and also experienced ones too.

This Shupu, as its raw sibling,  has won Gold medals in different tea exhibitions.
